We have two words in our text today: skismata which means to tear, rend, or divide and katertizo which means to mend, fix, or make perfect. Paul pleads with us to lay aside the wisdom of man which divides and rejoice instead in the foolishness of the cross of Christ which through the forgiveness of sins makes whole that that which man has torn apart.

In this text we see Jesus as the perfect human. He is what we ought to be: eager to learn the word of God, and de-lighting in the will of the Father. We have so badly failed to be and do what we should. But Christ has taken our place. He is the perfect human, so that we don’t have to be.
